Dr Kate Madden, Clinical Psychologist, (HCPC registered)
My first step in therapy with both adults and children is to build a relationship where you feel safe and listened to. I ensure to take a person-centred approach to work on what feels most important and I draw on a range of therapeutic models depending on your goals. This includes EMDR, compassion focused therapy, systemic and narrative therapy, ACT, attachment-based therapy, trauma-informed therapy, DBT and emotion regulation, CBT and mindfulness.
Throughout my work, I look at understanding how past and current life experiences and relationships relate to how you or your child are feeling now. I like to take a creative approach, to ensure therapy is engaging and interesting and takes into account the people and situations around you or your child.
My professional background
I gained my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Royal Holloway University of London. I have level 3 EMDR training. I also have Level 1 Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, which draws on attachment and trauma-informed approaches. Alongside my private practice, I work in the NHS with families known to Children’s Social Care. My experience in the NHS includes working with children, adolescents, adults, parents and families with a wide range of emotional and mental health difficulties including trauma and challenges in childhood, emotion regulation difficulties, behavioural difficulties, relationship and parenting challenges, and all mood difficulties e.g. low mood or anxiety.
I also have experience working with children and adults with physical health illnesses such as cancer, cardiac and respiratory diseases. Understanding the relationship and difference between physical and mental health helps me support people to live and adapt to physical health difficulties as positively as possible.

Dr Michael Woodcock, Clinical Psychologist,
(HCPC registered)
I appreciate that it can be daunting to seek help and as such understand the importance in creating a trusting environment where you can feel safe and listened to.
I work collaboratively with you to build up a joint understanding of the causes and contributory factors of your current difficulties, and identify appropriate interventions to help alleviate your distress. It is important to adapt my therapeutic approach to the needs of the person infront of me, and I am experienced in various psychological interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mentalization-Based Therapy, and Schema-informed Therapy approaches.
My professional background:
I undertook my doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at Royal Holloway, University of London. I have worked across both inpatient and community NHS services for over 12 years, including specialist trauma services and forensic mental health settings. My clinical work is with individuals and families across the lifespan with a variety of presenting difficulties, including PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorder, emotion dysregulation, anger difficulties, bipolar affective disorder, and psychosis. I have a special interest in working with those who have encountered traumatic experiences in their lifetime, and to help them recover from the psychological impact this has had on them, their life, and their relationships.
As well as providing therapy I also undertake expert witness work for criminal and immigration court.
My current NHS role is as a Principal Clinical Psychologist within a medium secure forensic inpatient setting, working with individuals suffering with severe mental illness and demonstrating violent and challenging behaviours.
