What is a Clinical Psychologist?

Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you don’t need a referral from a GP or any other professional. We generally advice you to inform your GP if you’re seeking psychological support to ensure continuity of care. However, we never routinely pass information to your GP without your consent.
How do I go about arranging an initial consultation?
If you’d like to book a first appointment please email us at: kate.madden@southlondonpsychology.co.uk with your details and a brief summary of the sort of support you are looking for.
Following this we will get in touch with you to arrange a free telephone initial 15 minute consultation.
How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
If we have availability, we aim to contact you within a week to arrange an initial consultation. Waiting time for the first assessment session depends on clinician’s availability.
Do you offer sessions outside of normal working hours?
Yes, we are able to offer appointments in evenings and some early mornings.
Where does the session take place?
We are currently operating online only. All our sessions take place via Microsoft Teams.
What can I expect during the first appointment or assessment?
During the initial assessment, your Psychologist will spend time finding out more about you and the difficulties you are experiencing. At the start of therapy, our aim is to collaboratively decide on the focus for the piece of work together, which will then be regularly reviewed and refined as the work develops. Your Psychologist will also use the initial assessment to ensure that they are best placed to support you, or whether they would be recommending a different practitioner or service.
What happens if we agree to work together?
If, after our initial appointment, we are both in agreement to enter into a piece of work together, we will set a regular time and day for sessions. Typically, sessions occur weekly, however we can discuss working more flexibly if needed.
How much does the therapy cost?
Our fees are £120 per session for individual therapy and £140 for family therapy. Fees can be paid by bank transfer and invoices are payable within a week after the session. A block of sessions may be paid for in advanced if the client wishes.
Are you registered with private health insurers?
Yes we are – please get in touch to discuss.
